Dodgy power steering - your opinions please?

Hi folks
Yesterday i bought yet another touring which is now going to become my M30 conversion as i prefer the colour to my sterling silver one.
It drives without fault with one exception.
If you turn the steering to the right its perfect but in the opposite direction it feels stiffer and it sounds like the pump is having to work harder :?
When driving it it pulls a little to the left with or without the brakes applied!
I have my views on this problem but would appreciate your input please.
The cars a 90 320SE.
Cheers Spadge..

Ok matey, never had this problem on a BM before, but same thing happened on my <shame> escort </shame> it was the rubber seals on the power steering rack had perished one side, unfortunatly it was just easier to change the rack! (since yo can't buy the rubber seals seperatly.

Are you leaking any PAS fluid? Is it from the rack or pipes or the join? if not i don't know what the problem is, I suspect the rack is at fault though. If the pump works one way it should in theory have no trouble the other.

If there is no leak is there a blockage in the pipes?

Aplogies for jumping your post Spadge, but I have a similar problem on mine, except sometimes whilst stationary and you turn the wheel ,there is a loud "honking" noise from the engine bay. Possibly rubbing noise?

that honking noise sounds like it could be the pump straining, probably needs replacing, or it may be under strain from another failing part, mayble blockage or worn seal.
