Front Wheel Bearing?

Hi

My 323 has just begun to develop a grinding noise from the drivers side front wheel on tight left hand turns (at speed). I'm assuming that this is the start of wheel bearing failure...

I cant seem to find the bearing part no. on realOEM, does anyone know what they cost and how easy it is to change, i.e. do I need a press etc...?

Any help most appreciated, thanks

Rob.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E30-FRONT-WHE ... dZViewItem

ive got one on mine and no problems.

36mm socket.
if you take the wheel of pop the bearing nut cover of put the socket on the nut, put wheel back on car then on the ground then undo slightly, jack car back up, wheel off then caliper off then undo bearing nut completely, if you leave the disc on the bearing it gives you more to pull on if you dont have a bearing puller.

if you have basic knowledge your ok.

The rears are not so easy!

Do a search and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for that, I was expecting a removable cartridridge or something like that but there you go. Looks like this bit is quite pricey from the dealers so i'll be going to GSF...

Thanks again

Rob.

The bearing comes complete with the hub.

Once the old one is off you just slip the new assembly on and tighten the 36mm nut up tight as fook (about 200lbft afaik), use a chisel to 'dent' the collar on the nut to stop it undoing itself then fit a new cap.

Cheers,

Iain T

So the nut just pulls the new hub on straight?

Undo the nut and then pull the bearing off. Bearing looks like this:

Then clean up the area and push the new bearing on then as 'oze30' says put the nut back on a tighten up like my girl friends wallet. If you leave the hub dust cap of and but the wheel on and put the car back on the ground with the handbrake on tighten the nut through the wheel center cap.
