As title really, I'm taking my engine out this afternoon (hopefully!), will it come out with the gear box still on?
The weight of it all shouldn't be a prob as I'll lift it out with a digger, the head has also been removed.

Yes will come out as one no problems, you dont even need to remove the head, or even the inlet manifold for that matter. Good luck with the digger!

4 or 6 cylinder?
Either way the answer is yes, no problem. It just takes a bit of time to get the angle right as you are lifting, especially on the 6pot.
I took out an M40, gearbox and front prop section all in one go and re-fitted the 2.5 and gearbox in one.
Thinking about it, if the heads been removed it will be even easier.

The trouble with using something like a digger for the job, is you get no feedback from what you're doing. The first time you realise something is catching is when you notice the front wheels of the car are off the ground.
If I have to remove an engine out of the workshop I still use a digger, but as an attachment point for a chain hoist.

They'll be two of us on the job so one will be able to guide the engine out whilst the digger lifts it.

It's amazing what you can acheive with a bit of brute force and ignorance! Engine, gearbox and prop shaft out in one, dead easy.
