Rasping sound from drivetrain.

Rasping intermittent sound when I first move the car - sounds like something in the drivetrain. Not constant, as if something's rubbing at a certain point as it twists. Gradually gets quieter and then stops once I've driven about a mile. Any ideas? It gets faster with speed, and still goes when the clutch is down - it's louder when accelerating though.
Help would be appreciated.
Cheers, Ian

Look for the obvious first.
Something twisted around the propshaft or driveshaft? Could even be a brake pad scraping the disc.

Actually I didn't think of something twisted round - I'll check. It's got shoes rather than pads, and the noise sounds more central - like a propshaft or maybe the diff. Was worried it could be the input flange on the diff, as there's a lot of slack in it. But my hand brake also failed recently, so maybe the two are connected? Any idea how they could be connected? It was only working on one wheel anyway.
Cheers, appreciate the help so far
