Hi everyone. I am in the process of changing my cylinder head and in the head, behind the tappets are small (spare-ish) spacers/pressure things. Does anyone know what these are, why and are they only available through bmw? They don't come with head gasket sets etc.

Thanks!

They are called thrust pads and are also available from www.eurocarparts.com for £1.18 each (plus VAT). ECP part number 310110120.

Thanks for your answer, just to confirm that we are talking about the same part:

The bit I am talking about is the square shaped spring clip that sits underneath the hydraulic tappet within the head. £1.18 seems a little expensive for the part I am talking about?! They almost look like they don't belong there because they are smaller than the actual hole they go into?

Ok. Just had a quick look and found a picture of the thrust pads, they are not the part I am looking for. It's more and more looking like these bits are not supposed to be there (unless someone knows different).

I've had an M40 head apart before and I'm positive that the bits you describe were not there :?
