Hi there, trust you are all well.

My friend has a 318i touring. Nice car, however it has stopped dead in the past few weeks.

All electricals work (lights, wipers) however the car won't turn over. The battery seems fine.

It has an immobiliser fitted, the type which you place a PCB into a hole cut below the ignition barrel.

COuld some of you guys write down the steps you would go through to trace any issues? I can then try them when I go over to assist him.

Alternatively if anyone is passing near Blackheath and could help out I have no doubts that many beers and/or some cash would be forthcoming.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

I would start by pulling out a spark plug and placing it on the rocker cover or a good earth the checking for a spark on the sparkplug
if that is ok check the fuel pump is working

can you give any more details into how the problem started or is the car popping when trying to start etc

Thanks for the reply.

The car isn't even trying to start although the battery is okay (lights working fine). Simply nothing when the key is turned.

best

Take the cap off the diagnostic socket, (large round socket on the bulkhead), and short together pins 11 and 14 with a short piece of wire. This should engage the starter motor, regardless of whether the ignition on.
With the ignition on, the car may or may not start, depending on whether the immobiliser has interupted any other circuits.
