E30 Zone

OK, my E30 thankfully sailed through it's MOT again but I was advised that I'd need at least a pair of rear tyres ideally a complete set within a few thousand miles.
I've got Michelin Pilots on there at the moment which have lasted ages. I just want to try something different and have read about the Toyo Proxes T 1 R and it looks like a decent tyre.
My car is a 1990 318i that has AC Schnitzer suspension, lowered about 35mm and is fitted with sport roll bars etc....and runs on standard 15" BBS crosspokes. I'd be sticking to the standard 205/55/15 size all round unless anyone thinks I can go wider on the rears ?? It handles well considering the kit has been on there for 50K although doesn't get used for track days etc.... just a daily driver with the odd race round the corners.
Will the Toyos last OK and anyone experienced how they ride ??
Could I go to 215/50/15's mon the rear and would it look right ??

Any advice would be gratefully received !!!

i use toyo t1-r on my touring and ive yet to experience a better gripping tyre in the dry.soft compound means great grip but unfortunately they wear out quite quick but to me grip is more important than longevity.

they are the daddy on par with goodyear F1's etc

gor for 205/50/15's but u need a 35mm or more drop for it to look right. Will look a bit silly otherwise

Falken ZE1 512 (or something) are also good tyres, similar to Toyo's.

Make sure you get the right toyo tyre, the earlier ones have less rubber on the shoulders and wear pretty quick.

I would say 205 50 15 at the front and 205 55 15 at the rear so year speedo doesn't get messed up.

Isn't that more expensive than camskill? Camskil include postage + Vat in the price...

Phone mytyres before ordering - they probably don't actually have them in stock. Camskills will, and Brian should do you four for £190 (well, he did for me ). Delivery's quick, too.

I put a pair of 195/50/r15 on the rear of the touring before its european adventure...

excellent grip in both the wet and dry-no problems whatsoever at the nurburg ring, and that was with a full tank of gas/full boot.

if i'd had the nankangs on the rear i'd have been in the barrier twice

Also helped put the power (all 129bhp ) in the torrential rain we experienced in Austria-felt very confident.

I'd also say that the t1s as fitted to my car wear extremely well-the ones on my rear did 6500 miles in 13 days, including some of the worst "roads" that I have ever seen.

and at £62 for 2 it hardly broke the bank

I have 225 40 16 on the fronts and at £44 fitted (each) i think they are good tires. But i have found that as they heat up the grip level goes down.

As above, i think they're great tyres. I fitted the first T1-S to mine about 2 years ago and haven't fitted anything else (Now T1-R) since.

They are quite soft but come with a lot of tread to start with (My brand new Yoko AVS-Sport on the gtr at £150 each look half worn compared to these!). I fitted 205/55/R15 but to be honest with the extra tread you could easily go 205/50/R15 without being far out on your speedo.

I have my car for sale at the moment, depending on the offer i get i have 2x brand new T1-R in 205/55/R15, they're just over £50 each on mytyres, i'd probably sell them for £70 ish the pair.

Toyo Proxes are the dogs bollocks mate, I have T1-S's. Wet, dry, road or track they perform brilliantly , nothing else at a similar price point comes close - anything else this good costs twice as much!

As for size, you can go +-2.5% from your standard size, the table below will show you the sizes you can use:

The 205/50x15 are actually too small (though they are cheaper than the rest), though maybe that doesn't bother you. 225/50x15 is the closest in size but how would they fit / look on your rims (what width are the x-spokes?) I'd go for 215/50x15... I have 215/40x17's...

got over 60 laps at the ring in them too

Another vote for Toyo's. They felt great when I took my car to the 'Ring.
