Hi, When I owned a toyota gti I fitted bigger brakes from fensport and they told me to remove the back plate from behind the disc to aid cooling. would his be ok to do on an e30 ?

by back plate do you mean the cover on the inside of the brake disks ,thin metal cover ?
i removed them on my jaguar xjs as they were in the way when i upgraded the brakes not sure about bmw setup ,didnt cause me any probs on the jag still working well

the back plate on the rears hold the pin that holds the hand brake shoes in position.i did also remove mine when i had a rwd toyota celica.

Yes the thin metal cover behind the disc. So it should be ok to remove.

on the front i doubt removing it would cause any prob, but it prob is designed to catch extra air and pull it in towards the brakes as well as keepin dust in and water out..
