E30 Zone

Why is it that on most e30 m20 engines that the injector wiring loom has been pissed about with??? The area that I'm talking about is just under the intake manifold where there should be a connector joining the injector loom with the rest of the engine loom.

On my 320ic there is no connector there and the loom is connected by some male female clips? Same on my sport, no connector but it's been soldered together and covered with black insulation tape.

Just recently I have bought a 2.7 from a member of the zone and again the same thing has happened to the wiring loom??

Why do people do this? At the moment I'm just prepping this 2.7 engine up and was thinking would it be best if I replaced this area of the wiring loom, as I don't want any problems to occur after I have fitted the engine in?????

Can any one shed some light on this topic??

i have owned in excess of a 100 e30s over the years and as far as i know have never had any that were tampered with

just checked mine on drive to be sure and alls well

most scrappies chop em to remove engine? we had a 320 where theyd hacked it off rather than disconnect it.

gcorky - agreed i have seen on several occasions where scrappies just snip the loom to rip an engine out as opposed to doing it neat -
an e30 i bought had a loom that was snipped in this way and scotch tapped a new ingine into the existing loom. looked an absolute mess
endd up scrapping that car

thats a lot of E30's!!! you have far too much money, space and time!!

hello mate most common reason people do this is because water gose into the conections and cause a bad connection and even makes it corrode then causeing a missfire well thats what happend on mine anyway thanks mate

Agreed its a necessary thing to do once the original connector has passed ts prime, but to remove the weatherproof plug combo and replace with crimps/choc blox etc seems counterproductive
