Hi,

Does anybody know the correct fuel consumption for a 90' 316iA. The car has been serviced recently (new plugs, filters, dis cap & rotor arm, ATF & strainer etc) and is returning around 30mpg on a motorway run (75 mph) or around 20mpg around town.

This is roughly the same as my old 92' E36 325iA.

Any ideas or is this average????

Cheers.

Think quoted combined figures are 25ish, so yours sounds right.

Zayyan can get about 40mpg out of a 1.6i send him a PM and I'm sure he'll pass on some tips :D

your 316i has a short final drive (about 4.10:1) and therefore revs quite high on the motorway=drinks more fuel.

First thing I'd do is give the car a thorough service (click on the articles link at top of page, then go to tech menu and look for m40 servicing guide.)

If you're m40 is running at the right temp, sparking well and breathing clean air, it makes a helluva difference.

My recently serviced m20b20 (notoriously thirsty) just gave me 220 miles to £25, made up of 150 miles mway, 50 miles A road and 20 miles B road...

thats 35mpg
