Touring suspension noise question

Now that the radio has been stolen, there is a whole new world of mystery noises from the touring
The rattle from the rear wheel has been sorted - was the cap on the BBS (cheers Chris-W), and am hunting down the others.
I can hear the suspension working in the rear of the car. A "tssst-tssst" sound as the shock compresses and uncompresses. Is this normal, or do I have a shagged shock absorber? It could just be the rusty hole in the wheelarch letting the noise in
