Hunting on Startup, is this normal?

Hi guys,

My 318is seems to 'hunt' when it starts from cold. The revs rise and fall two or three times before it settles. Any ideas what may be causing this? It idles at around 800rpm, but labours ever so slightly. Is there some kind of sensor or something which is not working properly? is this a normal idling speed?

Any help would be really appreciated...

Cheers,

Ben

Hi

I would start by cleaning the Idle Control Valve (ICV) out with Carb Cleaner, its by the bulk head under the inlet manifold. Once you think it is clean, clean it another 2-3 times!

While your there take the intake bellow off and clean the Airflow meter out and the throttle bodies plate.

Also check all Vacuum hoses (including bellow) for cracks and leaks

If you end up needing a ICV I have one for sale here

I live in london, so will take offers...

ICV needs cleaning or oil leak at lower gasket - did both and problem solved on my 316i.
