Clicking noise from back end

Hi all, just had a strange noise start from the back of my touring. It seems to start at slow speed, usually just in to 2nd, where it gets more intense and then disappears once moving quicker in third. Its a sort of loud clicking noise that increases in speed and volume as accelerating but goes when you press the clutch. Thought it might have been top mounts when i first noticed it but handling doesn't seem to be affected in any way. Exhaust seems solidly in place but haven't had a chance to look underneath yet. Could the diff be on the way out?? Seems weird that its only really happening in 2nd gear...
Any thoughts would be appreciated!!
Cheers

It will be something in the drivetrain. Most likely the diff, maybe the prop or somewhere else on the axel?

Though I would jump start an oldish thread.
I've got the same problem. Its kinda the same sort of noise you would get is you stick a playing card into a spinning bike wheel. It's most noticeable at low speeds and it is speed related. I guess it just disappears in to the whining noise from my diff at high speeds
Is this signs of the diff about to explode or will it still be ok to run?
It has happened before but it disappeared but now it's been happening every morning this week.
How do you know if the CV / Universal joints have gone?
I've was thinking of changing the diff oil this weekend to see if it help cause I have no idea when it was last done.
