Found after some recent work... and I don't remember taking it off

It's the pulse generator - you can re-fit it fairly easily by removing the rubber spark plug shroud from the end of the lead.

thats mad! I need one of those but have to buy the HT leads that come with it attached... how did you get that off without cutting a lead? (and remembering!)

any particular cylinder?
and considering I didn't take it off (really... i would remember... i can't have been that drunk...)
must have been sitting on the sump tray for some time. Presumably some sort of timing information that my car's been missing.
So how come I haven't noticed it?

Assumed it was a four pot for some reason.....

It's not used by the ECU, it only runs to the diagnostic socket so you could leave it off.

I used to think this, but it's used as a cam position sensor by some 325 motronic set ups as well.

its deffo #6 - presumably its the last cylinder, so a four pot will be lead #4.
I'll let you know if adding this sensor to my car makes a difference as my car feels like its running slightly retarded timing without it (jerking a little on constant throttle in higher gears and a small drop in revs if I touch throttle lightly) - My 325 is a '92 so I think it needs it.

OH MY GOD!
BMW wants £47 for a replacment! Leads it is, at £68 at least they're new and they come with the sensor!

Owch! Can't you get a second hand one though? Fairly sure someone will have one sitting in their garage (think I probably have actually!), or your local scrappies...

E30 ignition leads last for ever unless phyically damaged. Scrappy ones will be fine.

cool thanks guys, if anyone has a spare they'd be happy to part with I'd be most grateful? else I'll just go checking scrappies.
