Induction kit problem????

Hello,

I've done something really stupid. I've bought an induction kit for my 1985 323i from ebay, after reading the advert a second time, it seems the part is for 1992 models upwards. I emailed the supplier and he said it fits intake manifolds with mass airflow sensors, question is will it work or can it be adapted with my old mota??? The part is from TCB imports. :?

Also is it a bad idea to fit an induction kit to these cars, as performace is not increased greatly, will the car run hotter??

cheers,

JOhn

i have asked this question before and it seems that most people think that an induction kit will reduce power unless u can make a heat shield.

i found it reduced power on my 318i so i changed it for a panel filter

Hi,
In my experience with caterhams unless you are really nifty with aliuminum to make an air box (or do I just like ali? I'm a bit of a perfectionist) and have got some of that flexible boiler flue pipe stuff to make sure the mota gets cold air then there will not be any noticible increase in power.

Panel filters, or cones, or "induction" kits - the trick is to get the flow of air into the air intake behind the filter itself. Whatever you opt for - all will work, and depending on the route into the 'Mass' intake you will either experience slight increase or decrease in power.

Ducting is the answer, and as many have found, the BM's stock box tends to cope with the 'collection' of air a little better than simply attaching a free flow filter onto the end of the 'mass'.

Think of a way to get the air from the 'outside' to your new filter, and if poss., shield the filter in the engine bay - so when it draws or sucks air in, it will only be able to draw the colder air in from the front of the car.
