Hopefully someone can give me some help here

I've sourced an engine which i believe is from a c2 alpina, but is there any way i can tell, without taking it to bits, if it is the genuine lump or not before i start messing about sticking it in the car?

Also, did all the c2's have a sticky diff?

all alpinas had LSD's

there should be some stampings on the block C2/27 and MA with a number on it which matches the chassis number

4 digit marking on the head too, not sure where it is, inlet manifold side.
black inlet and rocker cover. Intials of who installed it too. possibly MA again

shud at least have black rocker cover.

numbers at bottom of dipstick and inl;et manifold shud be initialled. there is a unique 4 digit number on the head which alpina gave

whereabouts would the c2 27 be stamped? by the engine number at the bottom of the dipstick?

have had a bit of a setback though, despite having paid a deposit on it, the complete engine, the head's been sold

so now i'm hoping beyond hope that it's a replica

oh yeah, what head did the alpina's use? was it just a ported/flowed 325 head or is there more to it?


and the block has 25 6E A stamped on it if that helps anyone guide me in the right direction

And does anyone happen to know the code of the Alpina ECU?

I'm going to go bang my head against a wall now

One more thing, just in case i wasn't being awkward enough already

does anyone have any pictures of the standard pistons v's the alpina mahle ones?

did u ever manage to find out these numbers on the Alpina engine. Coz im probaly gona be in the same situation this weekend looking for the numbers on a Alpina that iv mananged to source.

any tips??

sturge, that block number u gave is not Alpina i'm afraid think the guy might be trying it on. Saying that Alpina blocks are the same as any other 2.5 block. In terms of dimensions. I've never heard of blocks failing on these engines either.

Alpina ECU's have alpina written on them!

i have alpina pistons but no photos! they look like an early 325i one but with a bigger dish and valve cut outs and not as thick. The gudgeon pin hole is also closer to the top.

But alpina made 2.7's with 3 different types of pistons!
