E30 Zone

Just got some ATF from BM to do an oil change, but how do you change the oil in gearbox and the diff due to the space restictions?

2 plugs on the box one to fill one to drain very straight forward but one tip undo the filler plug first because if you drain the oil and find your filler is seized you cant fill it up and you are in the s*it sometimes it helps if you stand the oil in a pan of hot water this makes it easier to squeeze into the filler and it all goes in diff is easy may help to run the car for a bit to get it hot ...then it will drain easier

Good advice to get the fill plug out first

I filled mine by getting an old stylee oil can (the ones with the little thumb actuated pump) and manually pumped the oil in.

It was EP80 for mine though, which 1) stinks and 2) is bloody thick so I now have an UBER thumb

I used a length of garden hose and put a funnel in one end and the other end into the filler hole. If you have someone to help you, one could lie under the car to hold the hose in the filler hole and the other stand at the side of the car and pour the oil into the funnel and let it drain down to the diff, same for the gearbox.

Thanks guy's, I'll have to get some tube or similar, I knew there must have been an easier way. Thanks alot.

Variant on this - from inside the car feed the hose straight down alongside the gearstick to the fill hole. Bit odd but works well.

Also make sure you get new sump plugs as all the e30's I come across have had the plugs sooo warn, making them very difficult to undo..

They don't cost a lot from the dealers!
