E30 Zone

Hello all.
I need some help please.
My car is a rhd 1992 325i convertible with manual roof folding.
I have a problem with the rear off-side window not working - its currently in the down position. It was raising and lowering OK the last time I took the car out - 5 days ago. I have a spare switch which I substituted but still no action. The light in the switch is illuminated and all 4 windows seem to share the same fuse so I have power at the switches.
Is there anything else I can check? I’m not skilled enough remove the interior panel and to delve into the mechanism, unless there are some comprehensive instructions somewhere on the web. A parts diagram might be useful as well, but I cannot see that on RealOEM.com.
Any thoughts or solutions would be very gratefully received.

May be a bad or corroded connection on the motor. Can you hear the motor clicking when you press the switch?. You may be able to get the window back up by hitting the doorcard in the general area of the motor while activating the switch at the same time. The doorcard is a series of clips and there should be an instruction on the net on removing it I am sure. Otherwise, the motor could be on the way out or the glass binding in the runners.

Thank you. I have tried a spare switch and also the front window switch which I know is OK and still no action. I now feel the problem isn't the switch. I can't hear any sound from the vicinity of the motor so I don't think its trying to work. I will have get the side panel off tomcheck the conmrctor and motor. KR David

Same thing has just happened with mine. The switch is ok - motor clicks, but no action. Will investigate...

Have you done a search on here and also the "Wiki" may have something ?

I have been lucky this time - a hard blow with my fist, whilst pressing the up button, has released the mechanism/motor. The place to hit is between the seat squab and the door opening. Obviously this is not a permanent solution to the problem but has got me out of trouble this time.

From memory, I think that’s where the connector is.
Accessing the rear window is not that hard.
- lift up rear seat squab
- undo 2 bolts & remove rear backrest
- remove speaker cover (and top realise handle trim)
- few screws, peel back door seal
And the rear card is out - you’ve got good access to the connectors and mechanism
