Induction open air filter to increase sound

Hi,

I've been looking at ways to slightly increase sound of my E30 325e ('85) and came accross an induction open air filter, e.g. https://www.ltec-shop.nl/contents/nl/d8 ... ilter.html

Can someone here tell me if this really makes any difference, or is it barely noticable? Are there any downsides?

Thanks!

Absolutely no advantage in fitting an open filter unless you also fit an enclosed box to house it in to avoid sucking in hot air from under the bonnet. Even if you do this the difference will be negligible. Stick with the oem filter set up, general consensus is it's the best option. Why do you want your car to make more noise? I spend a lot of time trying to make my car quieter!

an open K&N cone is proven to make a few hp on the dyno with bonnet open. different story with closed and driving around as it sucks hot air. K&N filter like shit but the panel fillter seems to do a better job from airflow on an m20 with mods but not enough to makeup for the substandard filtration. Foam filters are hopeless rubbish.

years ago i did bigger version OEM style airbox E30m3 filter panel and retained proper snorkel etc to keep it cold air. its not a direct fit
