E30 Zone

Thought I'd stick up a thread to hopefully help other people Googling the issue.

My boot pockets have been filling up with water for a few years. I had already replaced the usual suspects (tail light seals and boot seal) to no avail.

Fortunately I have a Touring, and all the boot plastics are removed, so I was able to sit in the boot in the rain and see where the water was continuing to come in from, and it was the sealing o-ring/gasket on the vent flaps on either side.

These are the same on all facelift models as far as I am aware.

Part number is 64221922280 and they are about £4 each from the dealership. I just bought 5 so I can sort out a couple of cars and have a spare one as well.

This is the most overlooked culprit for water ingress...

It’s a piss poor design though, a few plastic clips are responsible for maintaining the pressure on the seals.

My early PFL did not have them, another case of improving worse

My brand new genuine ones still let in water, crap design is right...

I'm going to take the bumper off again and seal them with silicone...

A generous brushing of waxoil always helps keep water out
