E30 Zone

Hey guys,

The guy who had my car before me thought it would be a good idea to put a 320i exhaust on a 325i, and it’s a bit knackered anyway.
Just had a quote from BMW for £913 for the pair.

Anyone got a non-oem no cat one for theirs and had a good experience, fit and quality wise?l before I spend a small fortune one the ones from beemer?

The only ones I have had good experiences with are the likes of Eisenmann and BTB but that is spending a large fortune as opposed to a small one. OEM one is not a bad way to go if you are keeping it. It is a car that would justify it

When I took the covers off mine after many years in storage I was convinced that someone had stolen the new 'Ansa' exhaust I put on not long before putting it off the road.

It was only when I worked out the faint 'nuclear shadow' on the floor was the fine powdered rusty remains of my exhaust, that had disappeared completely. It was the Ansa badge sticking out of one of the larger piles of dust that gave it away. The OEM first section it was bolted to is still there - almost perfect.

If it is a twin pipe system all the way back then the 320i exhaust has the same pipe diameter as the 325i, the only difference should be the tail pipes, they are larger on the 325i.

Unfortunately there isnt a great deal of choice on exhausts, if you order from BMW then you may still get given Bosal parts, which can be bought a lot cheaper elsewhere. That pretty much leaves you with Imasaf, Walker or Bosal for standard replacements.

The first thing to decide is if you want oem or stainless. Stainless does seem to make sense nowadays as the Eberspacher OEM (high quality) ones aren't available.

Thanks guys. I defo dont want to go stainless, the rest of the car is being restored using OEM parts so I’ll probs go down that route to be honest! Just thought I’d ask the experts first before I give BMW £913

I’m in the same boat as you and almost going the way of a full OE setup - but as you note, it’s pricey.

I’m a bit disappointed to hear that Bosal and not Boysen is making OE exhausts these days because by all means the Bosal stuff is cheap and cheerfully made in Poland and the whole system can be had for £300 and the reviews are terrible.

That leave me with:

• Eisenmann: Eisenmann only does the back box/muffler and the connecting pipes to the middle box. So I have to get the middle box from somewhere. The former two alone is £560 for a 325i
• IMASAF: For almost £500 the full system. The folks in schmiedmann.com claim it’s designed to make the same sound etc.
• Fritz's Bits: Quite a few people recommended that on the E30Zone Facebook pages. Spoke to them and they claim to have sold more than 400 units in the last 15 years without any returns. £570 for whole system with fitting kit. Hmm...
• Custom stainless steel: A few good places in and around London have been recommended. Maybe that’s the way to go.

The other thing about the OE exhaust is the exhaust tips are no longer available. Annoying to say the least.

Talk about decision paralysis.

What are people thoughts on Fritz's Bits exhausts heard good and bad reviews.

After looking at eisenmann and supersprint I've decided to go custom
I'm going with http://www.zeroexhausts.co.uk/ and will report back
