318i Automatic gearbox issue

My 4 speed auto box "jerks" badly when I engage any gear and it seems to be getting worse, all other operations of the box are spot on, changes up and down fine, kicks-down well, slides into top just over 50mph for motorway cruising.
The fluid level is a touch high but don`t think that's the problem, I have also noticed a slight "movement clonk" when slowing/pulling up so think I may have worn bushes somewhere ? or is it what I have heard in the long distant past that the "brake-bands" need adjusting ? any ideas welcome, especially from any auto experts, cheers.

Yes, I agree. I had a ‘73 2002 automatic with same issue. Turned out to be the universal joint on the driveshaft had gone bad. Replaced it, all was good again.
