MOT emissions - Brianmooore?

Hopefully Brianmooore will see this...

Is this still the loophole for the emissions test? 1993 touring with a 1999 M44 engine. Just dropped my car off for MOT and the tester said it all changed with the new MOT regs and this no longer applies, so my car will not pass the emissions test as it doesn't have a Cat fitted.

Thanks

Chart looks the same as it ever has to me. Ask him to show you an exact match for an E30 touring with an M44 engine on page 14 of this: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... dition.pdf

I don't know, off hand, what the M44 engine code is, but I'm sure it's not 18 4E 1, so no match and 3.5% max. CO.

Thanks Brian. So if I read that right, that is for cars post Aug 92 (but pre 95) that would usually require at Cat test?
I'm away at moment so not with the car (my BMW guy has taken the car for MOT) but I was told last week the tester initially said because I hadn't updated the V5 with the new engine number, he had to test to the age of the car, which meant a Cat test.
Now I've been told it actually passed the emissions test without a Cat fitted (I don't know if non-Cat or Cat test) but actually failed because it no longer has a Cat fitted. He is saying because it had one from new it needs to have one fitted to pass... he is happy with a fake or hollow Cat as long as it looks like one is present
