Removing residue of underbonnet deadening foam

I am going to be replacing the sound deadening foam from under bonnet as it has rotted and become crumbly.
I have removed as much of the foam as I can but has still left the remains of the sticky film. What is the best way to remove this film without scratching the paint. Can it be removed by any solvent or with gentle heat?

Try autoglymm intensive tar remover l.
I used it on a wing after stripping it of vynal wrap, took a bit of elbow grease but it did the job.

Don't waste your time shifting the old glue residue, just stick the new foam over the top, it'll hold just fine.

Spray on brake cleaner and a plastic scraper, unless you want to risk scoring into the paint underneath. Replacements stick much better onto a properly clean surface.
Do in a well ventilated area, fumes from brake cleaner are strong

May not be brake fluid as this will act like paint stripper!

Wear good gloves to protect your hands, cover the engine with an old blanket and use a cloth soaked in a petrol.
This was the best way to remove the old adhesive

Or again, don't bother.

Much easier just to take the bonnet off and lay it flat.
