ATP fuel tank and surging

Hi all,
I've got a problem with my newly built m20b28. The engine runs fine, but suffers massive fuel starvation on left and right hand turns. Currently 25% showing on the fuel gauge.
Now, its an eBay sourced atp fuel tank, which I've only been running since the engine was rebuilt.
On the way back from my initial post rebuild mot, I broke down. I suffered fuel starvation on a roundabout, followed by total engine cut out. At the time, I first thought fuel pump, but then found the wiring repair under the manifold to the injector power had gone bad. I replaced this and the car lived.
I ran it for about 2 days gentle use, and then it cut out while parking, this time it really was the fuel pump.
I have replaced it with a crappy eBay one, that I'm really not that satisfied with. It doesn't sit as deep in the cradle as the oem one, and the filter/bag is held to the pump by the bottom of the pump support, iirc, rather than the filter beibg the lowest point.
Now, my question is: are these tanks known for being bad at surging when fitted with the oem pump? I am guessing my pump is responsible for some of my problems, but even if I change it for a new bosch unit, will I experience the same surging?
Sadly, I couldn't get a feel for the tank and standard fuel pump before the original pump died...
Cheers!
Joe
