E30 Zone

I've just picked up two doors for the touring, a drivers and passenger O/S/R. However the drivers door has the electric window still in place and its closed. I want to strip this door and have it restored before looking to swap it with the current one next year. Any ideas on how to lower the window......or do I have to lower it prior to beginning the strip down............?
Apologies if it's a daft question!

You can lower the motor with 2 pieces of wire and a 12v battery.
