E30 Zone

I've got 2 SHEARED exhaust manifold studs on my e30. can anyone recommend a good value right angled drill as need to sort with Head staying n place. I've never done this before so a bit weary of it... But has to be done asap.. Anychance help much appreciated please see pic for sheared bolt in hole.

I had same with Hartge Head so mate done it in situ, new Irwin drill bits and a dewalt angled drill. Measure depth off hole and put tape round drill bit so u don't go to far in and go through water jacket.

Try and get hold of a "centre drill".
Its very good quality high speed steel which means it`s hard enough for the job but still remains relatively flexible (compared to carbide) and will give you a good start for your drill which is vital .
E bay may have them and I would suggest a number 4.

Oh I bought Dormer A101 HSS ST Straight Shank Left Hand Jobber Drill Din 338 thinking would be good enough but I guess not and will look for what you have said.. Thankyou for advice.

whats the engine ? might be easier to take it off as it will make the job loads harder and longer if theres not much room

This could also work but you really need to provide a start for the drill bit first , take it steady and try and use some type of oil/grease/lubricant to give it some help. This also applies to the drill bit and don't make the common mistake of going "hell for leather" speed wise as this will just burn out your bit.

OK cheers Matt, il center punch then use center drill then left handed drill bit using right handled drill when it arrives next week. Thanks all for your help much appreciated.
