Hi, I bought myself a 320i E30 cabriolet. Something seems to be up with the front electric windows. I think that the front left is jammed as the window buttons dim but nothing happens. And as for the front right window naff all happens when thats pressed, so probably a switch or connection issue?

Also since none of the front windows work, this means that when the doors are closed the windows are outside of the roof meaning that it leaks. Should the windows move up and down slightly to tuck into the convertible roof? Cheers for the help

Sorry to keep asking questions, but in my bmw manual it said that if all the windows are down then you have to put the rear windows up first before the front windows? What if I didnt do this? Cheers

You have a preface lift car right, this is funny becsuse iv a face lift car a my replacment crusty door with a prefacelift door to find there no stoper on a prefacelift door so yesterday i had to make one because i had the same problem, your windows arnt that modern that they go up a little after you close the door and fully up it should close with the glass going uder the hood :-x you say that its not working the glass going up and down my passaging door was like this and a helping hand to move it did the trick, give it a push either way these cars dont like to be layed up,and its time for you to remove the door card and have a look .easy remove three screws and the pull handle surround and arm rest(pulling and disconecking the side mirror button first and behind it is one of the three screws)and now poping the clips carefully off the door,i can give tips on refiiting after your poke around too :D if you take pics of the ajuster if you have one,ill take some pics and email you of how i sorted mine ,but i dont think your door has them, dont give up mate, somebody will help on here, but for now get the window down a bit and under the hood, ill check in later to see how your doing,
Andy

Cheers Andy. Well not actually sure whether mine is the facelift. It is 1990. I did a google search of pre-post facelift for the E30s and I couldnt actually see any difference, but I'm aware that mechanically there is alot of difference. Its good to know that the pre and post facelift doors are interchangeable. But i believe the window actuator is a cable for pre facelift and scissor mechanism for post facelift. Now ive said that I can imagine that the cable is all seized up. Abit of WD40 on the cable and on the window and a bit of muscle should do the trick! I think the hoods nakered and thats why the windows dont fit properly. Thank you very much for the instructions on removing the door card. I'm replacing the timing belt, auxiliary belts, water pump, gasket and coolant this weekend as its been stood still for 3 years and dont fancy breaking a timing belt. Hoping the get onto the windows next week because its not the same driving a convertible with the side windows up! Last night was the first time I've ever driven an E30 as it has been at the garage till now and it was absolutely awsome. The straight 6 sounds amazing especially under bridges!! Thanks for the help Andy and will let you know how it goes

This: http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... ont_window

has instructions for adjusting the front and rear windows.

Only early cars had cables. And all cabriolets have scissor type.
