I have a 1987 320i and went to swap out the suspension and realised I had 45mm strut housing :(
I was sure that only early model e30's had 45mm housing but its still my fault for not physically checking.
I want to use the shocks I've got to put on so can I just buy 51mm strut housing and bolt striaght on? will rotor and brake setup bolt straight on as well?
The housings that are on it and near brand new so I either a previous owner swapped like for like or "downgraded" to 45mm housings..

51mm strut is a straight swap - everything fits.

When I did my search brian told another memeber that if you just replace the strut housing and have to reuse the hub, rotor etc that removing them will damage the hub? Havent been able to find info on house you actually remove the hub.
Im going to try source a full setup though to avoid that situation.

Front wheel bearing (integral with hub) may or may not disintegrate when you pull it off the stub axle, depending on how worn the bearing is and how the tolerances on the stub axle outer face and the bearing inner face stack up.

Sweet makes sense now. Someones selling me 51mm struts and calipers so should be straight forward. Just need new rotors and maybe pads.
Only other thing Im concerned about is the amount of corrosion on the brake lines? One side is bulging anyway so happy to replace but dont think those threads are coming out!
