Barometric sensor

Does my m40b18 (or any other e30 for that matter) have one?
I don't think it does but, I need a definitive answer if pos.
Some guys in an efi list are saying the the setup uses air volume, air temp AND barometric pressure.. But surely it's just the first two?
Damned americans!

your car was marketed for italy and portugal; countries with very warm weather so probably would have them?
just a thought

Your car has an S14 fitted, that's why it has one.

Well he asked if any other E30's had one!!
Simon, have you replaced yours, phoned up BMW as I am driving to the Alps and wanted a new one just in case and they had never heard of it!! C3 also!!
So dont any other E30's have one except for the S14 engined ones?

Only the S14 engined cars I know of, not sure if other E30's for US market for example had them fitted.
I'm not suprised at the dealer not knowing nothing about them, but quite suprised C3 haven't.

It's a sensor for different altitudes, and air pressure, and adjusts the fuelling.

So what setup does the s14 use for air metering?

All cars have them.
The older M10/M30 engines have them too.
Modern cars (M40) have the sensor built into the ECU.
They retard/advance the timing depending on the height above sea level.

No lookup tables for Baro correction on the maps though dude, perhaps its a hardware dongle and directly alters PWM or some jazz
I stand corrected if this is the case, in fact, I'm gonna rip an ECU down and find the fekker

interessssssssting!
Let me know the results! If I had my spare ECU to hand I'd pop off the cover to look myself!
Could be an important issue in the MAF project.
would it have the sensor encased in the ECU itself? It sounds unlikely??

Certainly need them on South African models:
Cape Town = sea level = 100% Oxygen
Johannesburg = 3500ft above sea level = 70% oxygen in the air
In fact the differences are greater than the meter can cope with and need to be maually retuned as well.
Portsmouth = sea level = 100% oxygen!!!

Air is 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, 1% mixed of CO2, Argon, Farts, Ozone....loads of others..... !!!

Well spotted Kam. Not being a scientist myself but experienced driving in all these places I guess I was describing air density of all air components. Even the farts are thinner (I'm told)!

I'd have thought it would be mainly the fueling thats changed due to the differant levels of O2 in the air so it would affect the AFR's ?

so did we get an answer ?
