Anyone else had a starter make a grind sound before? One car here has been doing it for a while, it's starts most the time... It's a 320 auto 1984...
Would it be ok just changing starter or should I be ready to change anything else?

Does it grind immediately after the engine starts? If so, I had the same problem. Yeah, you just need the starter.
Better get it replaced asap, before it damages the teeth on the flywheel...

Thanks guys, what I was expecting to here.... It don't start sometimes and makes that noise, so I expected that what the sound was.
It's a auto e30 1984 320, would a fly wheel be the same from a 520 e28 auto? I have a donor engine and box.
Thanks.

As Me and Pete have told you on Facebook, you can try the spare starter you have, but more than likely it will be a damaged ring gear, but as Pete said, you can use the flywheel of the E28 you've got coming.....
