Brake pedal travel

I have a 1990 Touring with a poor brake pedal on it, there is no air in the system and the brakes are fine.
The pedal just seems to move at least half way through its travel with just the resistance of the spring before it has any effect.
Am I correct in assuming this is because the linkage just needs adjusted so that it starts to operate the master cylinder early.

I know someone will be able to answer my question so thanks in anticipation

Yes. I would try adjusting the linkage.

There's a push rod behind the glove box that can be made longer or shorter by adjusting the nuts at each end.

It's the pull rod that goes across the car behind the heater box, fitted to RH drive cars only, that's likely to need adjusting. It has a RH thread on one end and a LH thread on the other, so loosening the locknuts and turning it will change its length. Adjust it so that the brake pedal is nearly against its upper stop.
There are a couple of flats on the bar, near where it passes the clutch pedal, that will accept a 7mm open ended spanner to enable you to turn it.

That's great, just as I thought Needed some confirmation before adjusting the rod.
