rear washer on a touring

I've read this:
http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... Rear_Motor
But wanted to check, I've tested the pump and it works and I've taken the pipe off the back of the motor and the pump pumps water out at that point so the pipe is clear and undamaged.
And I've taken the jet head off the wiper box nut and no water out of there so it's not just blocked jets.
so what happens when the water goes into the pump assembly? I take it it's not a straight though pipe and the wiki mentions a motor??
The motor for the wiper works, and the wiper works on the switch as expected.
The wiki mentions greasing the motor to rectify a sticking wiper but that's not the case on mine, just now water out the washer.
If I dismantle the unit as in the wiki will it become obvious and can it be fixed?
I've just let this unit go in the tailgate of the one I was breaking.
