Need a bit of advice.
Going to view a 1989 320i Touring this evening.
What sort of problems should I be looking out for mechanically and structurally?
Any help gratefully accepted,
Kilian

Good choice of car mate! Tourers are notorious for rust on the tailgate so give that a good check over.

rotten areas to check:
tailgate, sunroofpanel, rear boot corners under carpet and plastic, scuttel panel and posts ,innerwings, door bottoms,
mechanicaly:cooling system working ok .i.e let idle for while and observe temp on gauge, does it burn oil ,check fluids for contamination, gearbox wise is selector floppy,no wirring or noises and selects ok,clutch heavy is a sign of a well worn pressure plate and does pedal have feel all through its travel(if not dodgy master/slave cylinder),same with diff no whining should be heard, unless you take a jack just visually check bushs ,
roadtest will tell you a lot ,is it smoth and quiet with no nasty knocks on any corner of car?do all electrics ,wipers, speedo, obc ,locks, all work as should,if and only then offer 150 quid!
