Hi,
I've got an '89 320 m20 and i need to replace the thermostat housing as one of the pipes have broken off :(

I've got the housing loose, all the bolts out...however it won't come off as it hits the fuel rail, have i got to remove the manifold and fuel rail to remove it?!

I hope that makes sense, if not i'll take a piccy tomorrow to show the problem.

Cheers

Simply yes, the inlet needs to come off.

The intake manifold does not need to be removed.

Just remove both temperature sensors in the thermostat housing, unbolt the housing from the head and remove all hoses. It should just slide off then.

Depending on your luck the housing might barely touch the fuel rail on its way by. Pry it past if you like, or loosen the closest 10mm bolt on the fuel rail to give yourself just a wee bit more room.
