E30 Zone

Evening Zoners,

As with the weather getting worse and winter settling in. I guess it’s time to get this silly little issue resolved. The issue is that my rear screen demisters are not all working.

The bottom three lines of the screen seem to work and clear the screen however from there to the top of the screen it stays the same and not clear away when the demister switch is on.
What is the best way to resolve this?

All help is as always much appreciated.

Probably the lines have breaks in them, you need to repair them possibly ?

I presume there must be some breaks in the lines I shall look into this. Failing this i'd guess it would be the case of biting the bullet and going to the dealers right?

it's easy to change the rear screen for a known working one from a local breaker .

Hi Mick hope your well.

The only problem here in the good ole east London is that all the good breakers have seemed to close down and or no longer stock parts for these old turds.

I am guessing id have to bite the bullet and go to the dealers.

ive sold 4 in the last month

Be glad you don't have a touring. Not an easy DIY fix and big money to replace.

do a wanted add and collect it ..i'm sure you'll find someone within 30 miles that has one ...after all most e30's have them .

That windscreen stripe repair thing from Halfords is rubbish or at least I found it useless. You will just make a big mess instead of sorting the problem.

Replacing the rear screen is not a big deal, because it's not bonded like on modern cars - you can take it out in 5-10 mins with the right tools.

I've never tried , but there are other similar products , ultimately it will depend on how much is needed/how many breaks ? IF you could find it and was 1 or 2 tiny breaks and you were careful it may be good or say if 1 tiny break in a non central area

But if the other option is swapping the screen .. Then theres nothing to loose and its worth a go

Maybe get in the car with a big magnifying glass and start from bottom and work way up looking closely ?

Thanks Stephan. I had a quick brows through the halfords site and it seems the reviews were very negative. According to the reviews most people had bad experiences with this stuff.

Ill stay well clear. Ill just hunt a good used one and be done with this.

There is two pack epoxy electrically conductive silver 'paint' available, that will do the job if used as per instructions, but you won't find it in places like Halfords.
If you go down this route, make sure you get the electrically conductive version, not the heat conductive similar alternative.

I have 2 small breaks and need this too. Any ideas where to get this from Brian?
