hi my fuel gauge has just started dancing left and right extremely quickly any ideas?

Brass nut on the back of the cluster, or a problem with the level sensor(s) in the tank.

what do u suggest would be best place to start from?

I also have a guage problem.

It has decided that half a tank is empty and the light comes on... It is correct! I've replaced the sender and done the nut. Twice! Anymore ideas?

Taking the cluster out is easy enough (no need to remove the steering wheel), and there are a few "while you're in there" things that can be done at the same time - brass nut on temp. gauge, SI board battery check, soldering of pins on speedo., soldering of 220 ohm resistor and replacement of any blackened bulbs.
Alternatively, you can pull the three pin plug off of the level sensor on the RH side, or find the wire at the plug and socket under the RH side of the rear seat cushion, and connect the gauge wire to earth via a resistor of around 33 or 47 ohms, and see if that makes the gauge stable.
Do you have a 55 litre tank with one sensor, or a 62 litre with two?

If the light comes on, then the tank IS empty (that side at least), or the sender assembly is faulty. 'Faulty' is usually caused by the uninitiated trying to remove the complete fuel pump assembly without removing the sender first, and denting in the aluminium can.
What size tank?

It's a 55 litre tank. Do you mean the ally sender is dented? Because that's fine. The pump assembly itself works fine too

Sounds like you may have the wrong gauge fitted in your cluster. A 62 litre gauge will read half full when connected to an empty 55 litre tank.

I've also had problems with mine the light has never worked since I got the car!! I've had the sender out and checked all connections, removed the dash checked bulb ect , the gauge works fine but just no light!! Anyone any ideas? Anything I can link out to see if the light comes on to check the circuit??

Short the brown and the brown/grey at the three pin plug on the pump assembly. Light should come on.

Well light works, sender also works as I've lifted it out the tank slightly and bingo light comes on, the needle is well past the red though before it lights up so I've obviously never run it low enough lol

The light should not come on until the needle is past the red painted section, and onto the section that actually lights up.

I too had similar issue’s with my fuel gauge, took the cluster out went to tighten the brass nut & it snapped.

Is this going to cause me a problem?
