Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I just fitted my zone chip today and am astonished by the difference, no more flat spots, much more responsive / better throttle control and feels nippier all round....wish I'd done this ages ago....
For anyone hesitating - get one asap, it's like driving a new car, Ant - we are not worthy

What engine and chip combo have you got. I had one on my Christmas list, along with most of the shop but my family thought my car was plenty fast enough already!

I've got a 325i SE and went for the "wild" chip, I've not done any real motorway driving to test it to the max yet but went for a spin after fitting it and couldn't believe the difference.
My car used to "chug" at idle threatening to cut out and I could depress the throttle about an inch before getting any bite as well as having a variety of flat spots between gear changes. Think this is a general age issue as my old 318i used to do all of these and every mechanic I went to couldn't rectify it.
Order one up and follow the fitting instructions in the articles section to the letter and you'll notice a big difference. Took me about 45 mins all in, started her up and she coughed and spluttered for about 5 minutes and I thought "oh fzuk, what have I done", then the shaky idle stopped and picked up and she started running smoother than I've ever known it since I've had her. Took her for a spin and it felt like another car - best Ԛ£55 I've spent for a long time.
Going to give her a sterner test tomorrow

Can anyone tell me if this zone chip alters the economy of the car much? I have a 1988 325i. Also, how do you contact Ant directly, i.e. who is he?
Cheers.

I'll add mine name to the chorus of praise for Ant's zonechips.
Top drivability upgrade.
Top bloke.
Wid77 - economy appears unchanged. More of a response/drivability upgrade than a power upgrade..

27

I better get one, I'm lucky to get 22 round town driving like an old man (and I'm 30)
On a serious note I think I will get one with the way a lot of people (not just on this thread) have been going on about them. It'll be interesting to see the difference as I aready have a Superchip and one marked Alpina??

E30 ECU will run rough for several miles after battery disconnection for a while, until it learns new idle settings.
Shouldn't run rough while warming up normally.
If it does, check the blue water temp sensor.

YES !!
No, since presumably you'll unplug the big ECU connector and have the ECU on the bench.
Most of you will probably think I'm mad, but with all the electrical work I do on E30s, I rarely dissconnect the battery. (Puts the radio out of action).

my car was actually cutting out when first fitted on the a19 in traffic, car wouldnt rev properly, eventually started and once settled has been spot on.
run for 10 mins idling then take for a run but i got stuck in traffic that isnt good for learning ecu again!!!!!!stop start open closed throttle etc!!!!
i didnt disconnect ecu for the reasons brian has said.
one note my ecu was a later one and so had a row of small screws on the case that had to be removed befroe opening up.this isnt the case on the tech guide.

I've got a wild chip on my 325, and it really is very good. But I thought the limiter is set at 7k on the wild chip, and I'm curious why this is ok to do. Does anyone know?

Just fitted new head gasket after hitting 7k with a new chip. I did find that one of the head bolts was missing though. I made the mistake of taking the mild zone chip out and replacing with another brand of race chip and the zone chip was first rate.
You live and learn.

Yeah, previous owner said friend in garage had fitted new head in August. The head is new and the bolts are, can't figure it out.
Mild chip is very refined, drivability is excellent, really smooth, tick over is great. Acceleration not brilliant, but loads of torque. Can't comment on the wild yet. Sorry. If you order just put a note in that you want a wild or you will get a mild.
Go for the wild otherwise you will get the mild then after a few days think, shit I want a wild one. Trust me I know.
