Mine used to do a similar thing and it was the head light switch.
If I turned or nudged it in the right way they would come on

Exactly what is and is not working?
Number plate lights? Clock? Ash trays? Heater controls? Hazard light switch?
Are you aware that the main lighting switch rotates as a dimmer for the panel lights?

In that case the problem is with the cluster itself.
Plugs on the back locked down properly? (black bar).
Bulb holders rotated to their correct position?
Capless bulbs inserted into the holders correctly, with the wire ends lying properly?
Well worn filaments in the bulbs damaged by shock? If they were lit at the time, they might well stay lit until switched off, but fail to light when switched on again.
