electric fan wiring help!

I have 99% completed an m30 conversion but i am stuck on the wiring for the elecric fan setup,
I am using an e32 aircon fan, tested and working on both speeds.

I have a coolant temp switch in the side of the rad, it has 3 wires so im guessing
its a dual speed switch?

I have searched high low and cannot find which wire is which and dont fancy shorting anything out, i dont have a circuit tester. Wiring diagrams confuse the heck out of me so staying away from them if its possible,

Can anyone help?

To use the temp switch, fan has to be wired through the unloader relay in the fuse box and it involves a little (minimal) splicing and soldering. DanThe's loom essentially replicates the factory wiring, which is available on the wiring diagrams on the wiki:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/imag ... ry_Fan.pdf

Tbh I think this is why most people seem to use a permanent live for the fan (=rubbish as it hinders airflow at speed) or a switched setup from the dashboard (=potential for running hot/overheating if you forget about it).

It's worth spending the time trying to understand the diagrams so you can get a proper setup using the temp switch. You can even wire in a manual override quite easily if you want to keep the fan running on the move for drifting, for example, where not a lot of air is going through the rad.

im in the process of fitting mine too. I've been told that I shouldn't use the temp sensor that goes in the rad, as this is not accurate enough.
I'm totally baffled as my plan was to use one of those.
