So I thought I'd start a new thread with a bit more detail to my central locking problem as it's really getting on my tits now..

With the car unlocked, the central locking clicks. Firstly it clicks just the once, then after about 1minute or so it clicks repeatedly every few seconds.

The button on the door moves a very slight bit as the click happens.

When I press the brake, indicate, use the power windows and, flash the headlights it clicks. Then it continues to cycle the clicking every couple of seconds..

The problem started with just the click happening when I pressed the brake but now it's all the time..

To stop the clicking I lock the doors by pushing the door button down..

On my lunch break today I got to the central locking module and filmed this:

Has anyone ever experienced such a thing??

It's probably a short somewhere or a bad earth but I'm hoping that someone might be able to point me in the right direction as I'm not up to speed with the cars electrical system..

Is there a module in the drivers door that drives the central locking???

Forgot to mention its a 2 door H reg 318i

yer, take out the kick panel by the accelerator pedal and under the speaker there is a blass type plate which has a relay box underneath it.

I think the wiki has a good guide but usually the thermal fuse goes inside, it's pretty obvious when you slide the case off.

I've done the red black wiring mod by soldering and heat shrinking the 2 red black wires from the wiki page. Thinking that might solve the issue.. But no joy..

I got to the central locking module and inspected the board and relays inside and there's nothing obviously broken or detached. The link to YouTube shows what's going on when the doors are left unlocked..

I'll have another look at the thermal fuse.. But it did seem completely intact.. Maybe I'll put a multimeter across it and see what it says..

The thermal fuse is either OK or open circuit. Very unlikely to be anything in between.
Unplug the locking ECU, and connect a 12 volt 5W or preferably 21W bulb between the red/black wire and the brown wire.
The bulb should light at full brightness, and stay that way all the time as the car is driven or stopped.
Does the car have remote central locking?

There is no remote central locking..
I'll try the bulb today and let you know.
