Interior lighting and sunroof question

Another quick question :)

My first one is the sun roof control button on the car, is this meant to always be illuminated and working even with no keys in the car?

Also the interior lights on the car dont work when a door is opened and trying the switches on the lights are just always on or off, any ideas?

Main "concern" is the sunroof button always being active or atleast illuminated but if this is normal ill ignore it :)

These two problems probably have a single root cause, which is the door pin switch in the A-pillar.

Sounds like a door pin is stuck 'on'

On an e30, the electric window switches, and I would assume sunroof switch, become active when the doors are opened.

As your roof is active all the time the car is thinking the door is open. Likewise, a sticky door switch will also mean the interior light is either off, or will be always on in both the normal (door operated) mode and the on mode.

May not be the switch itself. There's a plastic button fitted to the door itself that pushes the pin of the switch in when the door is closed. This button has been known to go AWOL.

And as if by magic you were correct! but it was not a sticky switch, turns out the front passenger door is missing the block that presses in the hinge, a quick bodge before i do something permanent thus sees the interior lights working as they should along with the sunroof light going out :)
