Hey guys, probably a silly question but can anyone confirm the location of the blue temp sensor on a 316i?

I thnk its under the air intake pipe on the engine in a slightly awkward small gap (not very technical heh) but just hoping someone can confirm it for me?

Thanks

If its an M40 (I'm assuming that, as its a 316i), the CTS is under the Inlet manifold, to the right of the Brown Sensor. Its a pain to get at!

Im assuming theres a small gap to get through for the sensor?

Not sure, I took the top half of the inlet to get at mine.

To be fair, is there any reason you need to access it? Are you certain it needs replacing?

That's the way BMW intended and why they made the top bit so easy to remove.

I have to say Brian, I totally agree, they're very easy to remove, I wish the M20s were as good!

You should have left it in place and measured the resistance at the pins on the ECU connector inside the cabin. The Wiki gives you the pinouts of the ECU and the resistance values you expect.

This method tests that there is not a wiring problem going from the Blue Sensor to the ECU.

You can get it out and in with a long extension, wobble joint and a lot of manual dexterity lol
