shifter knuckle removal help!!

I have the common e30 sloppy shifter syndrome.
I know the cause is a worn out shifter knuckle.

While the engine and box are out of the car I figured if theres a way to replace it, now is the best time to do so.
I have another gearbox off an m40 which had no play at all. I havent compared the two to see if they are the same as the idea of swapping them has only just come to mind.
Could somebody in the know shead some light on my dilemma?

Cheers
Carl

Shifter knuckle is held by a roll pin,so called because on removal it will roll to the darkest corner of your workshop to hide whilst laughing at your attempts to locate it.

However, the part is common to all E30's,so you should be able to swap them over.
Also worth replacing whilst you have the gearbox on the floor is the link rod between the base of the gear stick and the knuckle, along with the nylon liner to the gearstick bracket.A gear lever from a 1.9 Z3 is a straight swap, and reduces the throw of the lever. Also replace all washers and retaining pins.

There's a full description of all bits needed in the zone wiki.

Oh,and welcome to the mad house! :D

Change the oil seal behind the knuckle while it's off. Very common source of an oil leak on E30 gearboxes.
