E30 Zone

Fitted remote central locking yesterday, thought i would put up a thread for anyone else who is thinking the same.

Here is the device in question:

Here are the instructions to it:



First thing to do is access the boot area of your car, take off the carpet at the rear panel by the lights so you can see the lock mechanism for the boot.
The lock mechanism is white & red with a cable going to it.
Basically that cable is what you need. (Sorry for the poor pictures)



The wires you need are, Brown = Ground
Green with black stripe = Lock
Green with purple stripe = Unlock
The other wires just ignore.



So from this unit, the Lock wire is WHITE, so join white onto GREEN WITH BLACK stripe.

The Unlock is YELLOW WITH BLACK stripe, so join this wire onto GREEN WITH PURPLE stripe.

The E30 uses a negative trigger (dont know what this means) but i know that from the unit join BLACK, YELLOW & WHITE WITH BLACK stripe all onto the BROWN wire from the cable.

When you cut into the wires DONT COPY ME, cut it back bit further, closer to the left compartment because the wires aren't long enough. Then solder or put proper connectors.

Now all the tricky parts are done you need a constant live, my car is a touring so doesnt have a power aerial. So i took the permanent live from the rear interior light above. Flat screwdriver should get it off no problem. Then joid RED wire from unit onto BROWN AND RED wire at the back of the interior light.



Otherwise the live can be found on the antenna wires.

The reason i chose this actual unit is because the fob looked smart.



Next step is sort out the blinkers,so it flashes the indicators. If anyone has any input let me know.

I did this recently with mine but went for an all singing all dancing model with remote engine start and full closure for my windows

For just over 10 quid, its better than sticking a key in and turning it (too much effort )

Y did you put it in the boot?

Mines above the ABS ECU where you can tap into both indicators as well.

This wiring diagram has the E30 coloured wires on it relating to the glove box area and behind the speaker there.

Always fancied doing that, but don't like the thought of the car not being deadlocked

I went to the boot because when i searched on the internet people where saying it was the easiest place to install it.

BMW planned the wiring loom to provide all the required connections for an alarm/immobiliser/remote locking module in the area around the glovebox.

Nice little guide, shame there's not a way to do deadlocks.

How would that work to deadlock the diivers door?

It wouldn't, unless the driver's door is fitted with a lock motor containing a deadlock motor.

If I do that will the door still work correctly from the key?

Dont quote me on this but I'm sure I am able to remote lock the doors and if I wish also deadlock them manually

Just a quick question, area all the wires mentioned behind the speaker?

Yellow/blue and green/blue behind the speaker.
Red/yellow at the accessories socket.
Earths at the earthing stud with all the existing browns.
Blue/red and blue/black at the plug next to the accessories socket.

done mine about 2 years ago just bought a little box like you have a wired it straight in to the central locking box
only thing i couldnt get done was the 4 ways flash when you blip it but doesnt bother me

all locks like normal but no lights lol mine was about 20 quid

Generally speaking, you should have two activators for the locks if using deadlocks.

Reason being, some people use the anti highjack feature and lock the doors after the engine starts or after a few minutes. If you have the control unit deadlock the doors and you have an accident good luck getting out! (even if the protective fuse blows).

I'm about to go at this again on the touring, hopefully be able to get the "boot pop" feature working too

Just about to fit this to the 318i auto coupe I bought from the zone this weekend. Do the door cars need to come off or is all the work in the glove box area?

Follow this and you cant go far wrong, just done this on my touring the other day, had it done in half an hour, to make a neat job of it have some heat shrink and use soldered joints. Dont be a butcher and use twist and tape, bullets or chocky blocks

If done in the boot does it work exactly the same as if it were done in by the glovebox?

Anyone got more info on how to make the deadlock work? I don't have any locks on my doors just the boot but still wouldn't mind the deadlock feature. I have a rclick alarm I got ages ago that I'll be fitting.

I've just done this, only took me a couple of hours. I put the control unit in the glove box area as it was easy to tap into the indicators there.

Cheers for the guide and wire colours required, saved me a load of time.

This is an absolute bargain for less than a tenner, I should have done it years ago.

I opened up the wires in the boot of my 325e (US) '84, and the wires seem to be a different color for me. I'm colorblind to some colors but I'm pretty sure this is not green with purple, right?

Remove the orange/black and orange wires completely from the plug by pushing back the tab that holds the bucket in place and pulling them out.
Connect the yellow, yellow/black and black wires all together, fit a 6mm ring terminal to them, and fit it on to the earthing stud behind the glovebox (or instrument cluster, if someone fitted the steering wheel on the wrong side).

Do you mean by "wrong side" for non-UK editions? My steering wheel is on the left
