Engine cutting out

So for a few weeks my car has been cutting out when running from cold, moving off from cold when on a hill, and also moving off from cold up a hill after the car has come to a stop for e.g at a junction or traffic lights. Now with the warm weather it hardly every happened.

Maybe the odd time here and there but not to my recollection. And also the fuel guage is abit dodgy too, so i am unsure whether this has something to do with it, it goes up and down regardless of when i am parked on a hill or flat. Eventually it does go down, but I always fill up after doing 220 miles to be on the safe side

Fast forward to now. It has started to happen again, for e.g. after starting my car on a hill or slight gradient the engine would cut out if I apply my foot on the accelerator quickly. I have to press it slowly. I have had the car serviced in May and happened before this a few times. But it stopped for a while over the hot weather spell.

My car has 50k on the clock, its a 316i, M40. And is an automatic.

I am located in Birmingham so if anyone is local to give me a helping hand id appreciate that.

Thanks and Please help me 8O :(

Edit - After it cuts out and i try to start the car it takes 1-3 attempts, if i recall correctly

Have you tried changing the DME relay?

I have tried changing that or thought of it. It starts first time round never a problem, but when one of the scenarios stater in the original post, thats when I have a problem to start the car, it normally does start first time round after it cuts out too, but today it took a few attempts.

First things first would be a Blue Temp Sensor test (NOT a replacement):

I thought it could be this,if it isnt the Blue Temp Sensor then what could it be? My thoughts initially were a dodgy fuel pump or something simple clearly not. :(

Thanks will let you guys know how I get on

It is so annoying not knowing what is wrong. I dont want to keep replacing parts which dont need replacing just so I know what is the cause of the problem. Will take it to a specialist (midlandbm) tomorrow down the road, hope he knows.

So i took it to midlandbm and they suggested changing the air filter and then suggested dizzy cap. When I asked one of their mechanics about blue temp sensor test he said 'whats that' quiet worrying but he was young kid about my age 22

No I checked it today and there is no fault with the heating. Just the car attempting to cut out and cutting out too.

I will give the TPS thing a go, or when have to take it to a non bmw specialist i usually go to.
