Answers
1, For the E30...None. (Apart from a paper clip to reset the service lights)
2, Bluetooth ODB readers are great, ive got one for the Alfa, But of no use for the E30.
3, No, No & None...

The "OBD" socket on an E30 is used for two things: resetting the service lights, and cranking the motor from the engine bay. That's it. No electronic jiggery-pokery, plug-in readers or diagnostic gimmickry will tell you a single thing about your E30 through the diagnostic plug.
Get a multimeter, and learn how to use it.

There is no OBD port or OBDII port, there is only a service port.
As Grrrmachine (enough rs?) says, multimeter is the diag tool of choice on these old cars.

Thanks for the advice from everyone obviously I'm putting in far too many hours on the car and not enough sleep! Eyes are playing tricks on me, as I could have sworn to have seen a obd plug.
Kam what obd reader do you have and where did you purchase?

Not on an E30. The round plug in the engine bay is as Grrrmachine says, just a service port, ODB was not implemented on the E30.
This is the type i have for the Alfa Romeo

actually depending on ecu the e30 can store basic fault codes, that said they are not of much help and its not worth buying anything specifically to read them.
