i dont think many guys have swapped their airbag steering wheel for a plain one. this a bit of a difficult one because i think almost everyone on here has a e30 without a airbag!.....hmmm maybe a sport steering wheel with a airbag from a e36?!?!

When you do come round to removing the steering wheel, make sure you disconnect the battery atleast 15 mins before hand to avoind the airbag going off in your face!
Also, when you put a non airbag steering wheel on, you will need to connect the airbag wires with a fuse to complete the circuit.

e36 stuff WILL NOT FIT...
I think that stearing wheel is the only one that can work with an airbag in an e30.
You could alway loose all the airbag stuff....

Jens,
It can be done, before you do anything, disconnect your battery and leave it for a least 30 minutes. The reason you disconnect your battery is because there are capacitors in case you lose all your electrics in an accident before your airbag goes off. Leaving alone for more than 30 minutes gives the system a chance to discharge itself. Then disconnect the orange connectors under the dash.
You might find that your indicator and wiper stalks are a little closer because of the airbag wheel being bigger.
Hope this helps.

You can put a non-airbag wheel into an airbag car. I did it in mine.
Remove the battery cables and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Disconnect the orange connector under the dash for the airbag.
Remove the airbag from the wheel - it uses torx head bolts, can't recall what size. 4 of them - 2 on each side.
Once the airbag is off, a 22mm socket will help you break the wheel loose.
here's where you need some "modification". After you remove the wheel, you'll see that there is an aluminum spacer of sorts behind the wheel on the steering column. If you can get a second one of those and another flat washer, you have everything you need. Failing that, get several washers that will fit over the steering column.
You'll need to put the new non-airbag wheel on in place and then put on the second spacer and one washer, or your stack of washers then put the nut back on.
i wish I had pics, but I don't. hope that helped.

So what's actually different on a car with an airbag wheel? Steering column by the sound of things? Then some kinda wiring / control box I expect?
I love my tech-2, but I'd rather have ain airbag tbh!
