Can anyone help?
I'm currently refurbing an 87 M3. Unfortunately it has no boot set. I'm after as many photo's of an intact boot with all fittings. So as to aid with my refurb.
I also have a couple of questions if anyone can help.
Firstly I have a tank behind the back seat. Is this the norm for all M3's? As I have seen in one before and it didn't have the extra tank.
Secondly on stripping the old boot for paint prep, I have found lurking under the battery tray a plastic bottle and pipe. Seems like it is a pointless piece of plastic as it does not plug in anywhere. Can anyone please help?
Many thanks if anyone can shed light.

Janc the extra tank in the boot is a optional extra its long range fuel system fitted to some cars, it was a factory option only.
The plastic bottle you speak of is a catch tank for the overflow on the battery. It will no longer be used as modern batterys dont need this.
If you take it out you will need to then order a plug to cover the hole thats left when the bottle is taken out.

I have a 86 M3, I''ll take some pics and post. I think the boot is smaller than usual but the wheel well is the same so you should be able to cut down a standard boot liner, looks the same material.

Pretty sure the extra fuel tank in the boot was standard on euro M3's, but not on the UK cars.
Can't help with the pics though, as I have a few things missing too, but the cars to drive not look good..that's just my view mind!

Mines a euro M3 no extra tank, unless it's been taken out.

Well you've come to the right place, I doubt there's anything that can't be answered on here!

Not 100% but I thought the extra tank was standard , I've had one in all five of my M3's . Its behind the bulkhead carpet in the boot .

The extra 15 litre tank behind the rear seat was not an optional extra, it was standard on all euro cars except the Sport Evo. American cars didn't get it at all.
