Size of diff bearing nut?

As topic, the one at the end that fits to the propshaft, need to get this sucker off but as its sunk in cant use a spanner, and none of my sockets are quite big enough. Think its a 29/30 mm but would like to confirm before i go out and buy one! Unless I carry the diff straight into B&Q.. :D

Also how much resistance should there be on that end with the carrier removed? Had the diff welded by a friend but was not removed from the case.. therefore some metal has got into the bearing at the bottom and caused it to stick. Tried a petrol swill and a pressure washer and doesnt stick now but still has a lot of resistance, but not sure if this is simply since there will be no oil in there now.

And since I want it to all dry out before i attempt to add any oil think my only option is to get this nut off!

thought as much didnt have much more than an old ruler to measure it with

A better question perhaps is can i remove this bolt and get the shrapnel metal out of the bearings in there?
